About the Lanterns
The Grateful Crane 2025 – Ayumi Muramatsu
Inspired by "The Grateful Crane", a Japanese folktale about devotion and loyalty, Muramatsu blends calligraphy with origami and ukiyo-e to depict a white crane mid-flight, wings gracefully curved as if soaring across the night sky. A symbol of light and hope for the future, the crane symbolises longevity, peace and tranquillity in Japanese culture. With flowing calligraphic strokes and soft hues, the glowing lantern weaves traditional art into a luminous form that evokes both serenity and strength.

The Tiger's Auspicious Message – DHAL
Calling upon the popular "Tiger and Magpie" motif in Korean folk art, graffiti artist DHAL reinterprets the traditional guardian tiger with his vibrant 3D style. Infusing the lantern with timeless artistic flair, DHAL reimagines the exaggerated brushstrokes of traditional tigers through the lens of graffiti aesthetics, fusing contemporary street language with cultural symbolism. Across the tiger's body, DHAL's signature graffiti totems animate the piece with blessings and protective energy, while the magpies invoke joy and hope.

Fish of Fortune – Leong Kit Man
Centred around the auspicious and prosperous koi, this lantern vividly captures the poetry and vital energy of autumn in a lively fish leaping from the water, surrounded by lotus leaves transformed into blossoming waves. Using her refined gongbi painting technique, Leong captures the koi mid-leap, with scales adorned by red and gold leaves drawn from one of her own paintings. Evoking the colours and spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the work celebrates seasonal renewal, abundance and togetherness.

Brush and Moonlit Peaks – Lyu Weiguo
This poetic installation by master brush-maker and cultural inheritor Lyu Weiguo is inspired by President Xi Jinping's observation, "Green mountains and lucid waters are indeed mountains of gold and silver". Symbolising the harmonious coexistence of nature and civilization, the installation feature twin golden mountains cradling a full moon, further reflected in the base's golden mirrored wave panels. In front of the display, three calligraphy desks invite visitors to experience this timeless art, merging the elegance of calligraphy with Huzhou's beautiful landscapes.
